Customer Reviews

Well thought of design. Great bikeWell made bike. The frame is sturdy, the seat is decently padded and the grips are just right for my daughter. The foot rests are not to protruding which you'd think would be nice for more of a foot rest for your little one but I noticed my daughters legs would be hitting them if any wider. Well thought out bike.At its lowest setting it works for my 2 year old to push around and get going. 5THE balance bike to get! After reading TONS of reviews and countless articles about the science behind balance bikes, going with the strider was an obvious choice. Chose to upgrade to the sport version as it allows more ability to customize (replace tires, etc) as my toddler grows. Purchased for an average height 2 year old- fits him great now with plenty of room to grow into bike. The weight is optimal for kids (and for the parent who gets to carry the bike home after we've gone too far ;).Only 2 reasons for 4 stars instead of 5: 1) the bearings are exposed (MUCH more expensive models don't have this) and 2) the handlebars do not have any ability to prevent turning too far (this is controversial for first bikes as you don't want them to wreck because of turning the handlebars too far, but you also want them to have the freedom to turn without reaching a hard stop). Obviously, these weren't deal breakers as I knew about these things before purchasing. My 2 year old loves his bike!UPDATE: we now own 2 of these as the little sibling needed her own strider bike. We just transitioned our 4 year old to a bike with pedals (and no training wheels!!) after 2 years of strider biking and he immediately pedaled off as soon as he sat on his new pedal bike. It was the easiest transition and he felt confident to ride his big kid bike right away. I recommend this bike to every toddler parent I know! 4Price of an Owner's Manual is your Privacy!!!!The product seems fine ... maybe a bit expensive for what it is. In retrospect, it may have been better to order a regular bicycle and remove the pedals/crank/chain etc. That way it can convert to a regular bicycle when the child is ready. The thing that *really* bothers me is that for this price they don't give you an owner's manual. Instead you have to given them your e-mail and other personal information and get the nonsense pasted below in return. I don't know about the rest of you, but I really don't want to have an ongoing relationship with the manufacturer of balance bikes. I just want the stupid owner's manual with no hassle and no relationship!!!From Strider ...Thanks for signing up to keep in touch with Strider Bikes. We really appreciate it. From now on, you'll receive updates on Strider products, sweet sales, and our amazing events across the country. We promise we won't bother you too much. 3Good Balance Bike, but the Woom 1 Is BetterI've done a lot of research on balance bikes, and I've bought both a Strider 12 Pro and subsequently a Woom 2 for my daughter. In my opinion the Strider is a good balance bike, but it's not quite as good as the Woom 1 which I think is the best bike on the market. If I had it to do over I would have bought the Woom 1, but I didn't come across it until after purchasing the Strider. The things that distinguish the Woom 1 are:- lightweight aluminum frame which makes it easier for small children to move around- very low step through height making it easier for kids to mount- rear wheel hand brake- high quality inflatable wheelsThe Strider Pro is a step up from the regular Strider because of its lightweight aluminum frame, but it still has plastic wheels. These don't ride as smoothly or grip as well as inflatable ones. You can purchase inflatable wheels as an option, but then your Strider Pro is almost the same price as a Woom 1, and it still doesn't have the rear wheel hand brake.I could write a whole discussion about hand brakes, but I'll just say briefly that I think they're an awesome addition to balance bikes:- Although some people worry that a front wheel hand brake could cause the bike to flip if squeezed too hard, this does not apply to a rear-wheel only brake. These have no chance of flipping- Kids can still use their feet for braking, so the hand brake is just a bonus - no downside to having it.- When kids transition to pedal bikes they will have to use either a hand brake or coaster brake (pedal brake). However, coaster brakes are LAME: it's too easy for kids to accidentally activate them while pedaling, causing falls. Also, coaster brakes are not found on larger bikes because they're not as effective as hand brakes. So, the time kids spend learning to use the coaster brake is wasted when they move up to the next level bike.- Hand braking is the best braking technology, but it does require a little practice. So, having it available on a balance bike gives kids a head start, which is the whole point of balance bikes in the first place. 4He loves it! Bought this bike for our two year old and he loves it so we love it! Super light weight and easy for him to manage. After reading the reviews I was a bit apprehensive about the foam wheels but they are super lightweight and no flats! So they really are perfect for him.I like how at barely two he can manage his bike independently. Adds to his level of confidence! 5"I love it; I like that I can balance on ...My son is 3.5 years old and had never tried to ride a bike. He loves this balance bike. Within a month he was able to balance for about 100 yards at a time. In his words: "I love it; I like that I can balance on it".Through one summer, it is holding up just fine. Tires are foam, but still look great. It is light enough that he can carry it on his own. My only complaint would be that the handle bars are shaped so that there is definitely a correct position and a backward position (if you turn it 180 deg), but it is not very obvious so that my son many times tries to ride it with the handlebars backward...still works, just slightly awkward. 5Built to Last!I am impressed with the quality from top to bottom. It's super easy to put together (about 5 minutes, including opening the box), and the only tool needed was the included Allen wrench. My son is 2 years old. Based on the seat height for him, I would agree that it could be adjusted a little lower for a younger kid. I love that the tires will never go flat! What a great idea! It's well built, for sure. I'm 170 lbs, and it doesn't sag or flex when I sit on it (I know I'm not supposed to sit on it...but I had to try). Based on all that, there was no way I was going with a cheaper, "off-brand". Not cheap, but this is definitely a get-what-you-pay-for item. 5A+++ Best first bike!.. Add to cartThis should be every child's 1st bike. This is our 2nd bike. My 3 year old son road his first bike very hard daily. That's 9 months heavy use. The wheels bearings wore out as to be expected with such heavy use. I chose to replace the bike instead of replacing just the wheels. Bike 2 was also rode very hard. Wheel bearings also lasted for about 9 months. My son got a new bike but still would rather ride his old bike with wobble wheel. A+++ 5Assembly caution!!!!!!Caution No written instructions for assembling but the pictures are easy to follow. My caution is about a preassembled piece which connects the handlebars. As I picked it up the five pieces fell apart. It took 30 minutes and much straining to get it back together. Not an easy task for a grandmother. :(. It required a lot of muscle. I wish there had been written instructions and the screw holding the parts together had been tightened before shipping with a caution not to unscrew it. Other than my nightmare assembly it seems very sturdy and well made. 4but this was a great learning toolMy 4 year old son loves this bike. He had issues leaning how to pedal with a regular bike, so this was a cheap way for him to at least get the idea that a bike goes forward and fast! Not an issue now, but this was a great learning tool. The wheels are the best part, cause they never need to be inflated. They are hard and durable polymer/rubber combo. This bike is best used on FLAT concrete or asphalt. There are NO BREAKS, so be careful on hills. I take my son to a small local skate park with plenty of flat land for him to ride on and it's very smooth. 5
