Description

  • 546 ASSORTED PIECES -This K'NEX Education set includes 546 parts, plus a battery-powered motor, for a single child or a team of two to three children building a working roller coaster. Two additional models are also included in this set - a ramp and a half-pipe - which can be built one at a time. The set requires two AA batteries, which are not included.
  • OFFERS HANDS-ON LEARNING - K'NEX Education models offer proactive opportunities for introducing children to scientific inquiry, investigation, and experimentation. Inquiry-based lessons challenge young learners as they build, investigate, problem-solve, discuss, and evaluate scientific and design principles in action.
  • EXPERIMENT GUIDE - Once a ride is built, an activity booklet guides learners through three hands-on, inquiry-based experiments. This experiment guide aligns with the national STEM standards and is designed for grades 5-9. Students will learn about the relationships between time, distance, speed, and more!
  • PROMOTES TEAMWORK - This educational engineering set is more fun when constructed with friends. One to three kids can put their heads together and figure out the structure, exchanging ideas as they tinker with the bits and parts, and solving the model faster through teamwork. They'll build camaraderie and develop social skills as they play.
  • STEAMagination: It's the connection of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts & math) with a child's natural curiosity and creativity and it powers the fun of each and every K'NEX building set. Building with K'NEX puts children on a path towards a fundamental understanding of STEAM/STEM subjects.
  • LESSON PLANS AND EXPERIMENTS: All K'NEX Education sets come with either a comprehensive guide for teachers or an experiment guide for student-led learning. All lesson plans and experiment guides are written by expert educators and feature hands-on, inquiry-based projects that engage students in today's busy classroom.
  • ALIGNED TO NATIONAL STANDARDS: K'NEX Education teacher guides and experiment guides are aligned to national educational standards, including ITEEA, NSES, NCTM, NGSS and Common Core.
  • REAL WORLD LEARNING: Study after study reveals that students have more success learning STEM subjects through activities related to the real world rather than reading about abstract concepts in textbooks. K'NEX Education sets allow students to build replicas of real-world machines and contraptions and through the lesson plans and experiments, gain a concrete understanding of the principles that make them work.

Customer Reviews

Quality control is non existentI m an avid collector of LEGO and over the past 30 years I ve had two sets that were missing pieces out of hundreds bought. In those rare cases the sets were missing one brick or suchlike. This is my first set of KNEX, bought for my son, and right out of the box on page three of the instruction manual the first missing piece became apparent.I basically completed the whole set, robbing parts from other sections to replace missing ones - 10 in total!!!In the end the rigidity of the structure was not there and it really didn t work as intended and certainly not as exciting as my son and I thought it would be.I would not recommend to others and will not buy again. 1Fun set to take a break from legosThis is a pretty cool set, and my boys were happy to try something that wasn't legos. We were disappointed putting it together though that it was missing a few of the longest pieces. We were able to complete the set but the pieces missing were for support of the tallest part, so it wobbles pretty bad when it's running. Meanwhile we've never had a lego set missing a single piece. 3It does not workWe put it together very carefully and checked it twice, and the car would not complete the loop. Given the size of the loop, it is hard to imagine that it could. I called the customer service number, but the hotline was down for service! We tried weighting the car with pennies, as suggested in the instructions, but it still did not complete the loop. K'nex used to be a hundred percent reliable, but it seems the company has been sold, and I will be cautious about what I buy from them in future. Certainly no more rollercoasters! 1Poorly made, cannot complete the track with existing designI bought this to put together with my nephew while visiting after Christmas. I followed the instructions to a fault (I'm an engineer) and we were missing approximately ten pieces. I was able to adjust some of the supports of the tower to make up for it and set the track up exactly as directed but the car cannot complete the loop-- it's physically impossible between the first curve, weight of the car, and imperfect track. I did rig something up my 9 year old nephew loved but it was not the picture. Unless you're an engineer and want the challenge of making a poorly produced toy work (which I'll admit, I did enjoy in the end), I'd suggest finding an alternative. 1K'NEX roller coasterGrandkids love these... We like the fact that their dad can get involved with building too = boningtime . A fun project for all the boys and girls too. The best thing about this particular item is that it has movable parts so it actually does something after you build it which keeps their interest. 5Don t waste your moneyWish I would have read the reviews before purchasing... we got this for a science fair/project/display... we also have missing pieces and the car won t make it around the track... very disappointed... we also used to own k nex years ago and the quality of these are just not there... very cheaply made 1Great for young buildersMy 7-year-old loves this. He wants more sets. He was able to put it together himself - and was also able to do the 2 bonus configurations that are accessible online. If you have a child that loves to build things, this is a great set! 5Received used/returned product.Bought project in September and my daughter opened it today (box closed with tape.) We noticed immediately that we got returned merchandise. One bag was cut open and another set of pieces was thrown in some sort of random plastic bag. We searched and searched and couldn't even locate the first pieces you begin. I am very disappointed... the return window is closed so I am stuck with an incomplete toy and disappointed kids and students. 1Frustrating experience ............This was built by two engineers and a precocious 9 year old in about two hours but required another two hours to get the roller coaster car to complete one circuit on its own. The spiral portion of the track (flat semi-circles connected and stretched into a spiral) were a frustrating problem. It took a lot of experimenting with the few left-over pieces to rig the track to not drag/slow the coaster car on its downward spiral. And once it was working it was very delicate, any touch would require more adjustment. An improvement in this area was make the set far more enjoyable. 2Great, but requires adult interaction. Not for a typical youngster to complete alone.I homeschooled my kids, am married to a retired Nasa crew chief, have a daughter and son in law who have Masters Degrees in Civil Engineering, a daughter who teaches upper-level math to Jr. High School students, a daughter who majored in math and is now a lawyer, and her boyfriend who has a Masters Degree in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering...you could say that this "STEM" toy was a welcome introduction to our latest family party, though that'd be am understatement. The toy is labeled as a STEM, educational toy aimed at young kids. According to my panel of "experts", it's too detailed and precise for youngsters. If you aren't paying particular attention to the tiny pieces and connections, you're going to be in a world of hurt when you're not able to complete it or make it work. That said, it's a great tool for teaching kids, and with adult involvement, is a great project. But on their own, this would be very difficult to manage. The unit is huge when it's done. I loved that, but if you are limited in space, this could be an issue. You'll need typical tools (Philips screwdriver) and a couple of AA batteries. The overall opinion is that it's a great and fun way to talk about engineering and physics, but is definitely something to be done with adult partnership. 4
