Customer Reviews

BUYER BEWARE - Coated in Flame Retardant ChemicalsI was going to buy a Bazoongi play tent until I read a review from another buyer that warned of flame retardant chemicals used on these tents by Bazoongi. Unfortunately, I called the company and they confirmed that they do use flame retardant chemicals though the customer service rep couldn't or wouldn't tell me exactly which chemicals which is ridiculous since they have to know and honestly, all companies these days should be required to have it on their material label or provide that info when asked by a consumer. However, in fairness to the company--they are required to meet minimum safety flammability requirements but that doesn't have to be done with chemicals (you can meet requirements by using less flammable materials like cotton or a cotton polyester blend for example), also only certain flame retardants have sufficient studies or information about them to be either banned or under scrutiny by the government--from what I've read stay away from all "bromides" like polybrominated or decabromodiphenyl (aka PBDEs), also stay away from "tris or chlorinated tris" (aka TCEP or TDCPP) which is currently under legislation with the Senate. Flame retardant chemicals were banned in the 1970s by the US government from being used in baby/kid pajamas because they discovered their toxicity but for some strange reason it hasn't been banned from any other materials or items. Be sure to check with any manufacturer before you purchase an item that has been coated in these chemicals--also check that any foam used in mattresses or furniture haven't be coated either. You can easily verify this info anywhere on the Internet--legitimate articles by real magazines and newspapers have articles about this type of info. Hope this helps other parents and kids.BTW - I'm still trying to find a play tent manufacturer that doesn't use these chemicals and will also give them a review once I find one and actually purchase it and see how it holds up. 1
